Which is prettiest lunar?
 

I know there are loads of fans of lunars out there. I'm not really buying much silver at the moment, but would like to buy one 2oz lunar as a birthday present to myself!

Which one do all the lunar fans who bought the complete set think is the coolest?

We will all have our favorites, and they are all gorgeous - tho the Dragon is one of the most popular and hardest to get, I think (Jennifer might think differently, the rat and horses are also getting harder to get)

But if you'll take a suggestion - if you can only get one - get the one that corresponds to your own Chinese animal sign!

I just thought this thread would be a bit of fun .... yes, the gold snake is much nicer than the silver. Damn. The dog I think is the other way around ... and I've never seen a silver rat, though I have a gold one. It is way cool :smile:

I think the Dragon is the prettiest, but you may prefer your Chinese year or just your favorite animal. The Gold Lunar Set started in 1996, so it's complete now. The Silver Lunar Set however, started in 1999, so it's still missing the Rat, Ox, and Tiger.

Nobody ever mentions the rooster. Picking the best of this bunch is hard.

In gold, my favorites are the snake and the dragon. The ox and monkey are really nice, too. My golds are all fractionals, though. In the silver, the dragon is amazing, but I also really like the rabbit and the monkey.

You are right Tom D, the rooster is great also. In fact, they are all great. I am completely failing to decide!

for now i only have the gold series which my favourates are dragon and snake.
i don't have any but the guilded coins look nice too

Now you know why we've all bought sets! :laugh:

I'm sitting here right now deciding whether I'm going to order any to give as Christmas gifts. Not sets, mind you...individual coins...silver ones...because I am NOT the rich relative...

OK - ANOTHER SUGGESTION HAVING READ THESE POSTS........

If you can afford it - buy the entire set in 1 oz sizes.......then you don't have to decide.........roughly $160 and you really can't go wrong......sure, the premium is a bit higher than the Eagles or Maples but you are buying a set of 8 coins, not rolls or 100s. It gives you something gorgeous to look at and, when the time comes to sell your silver, you might even decide to hold on to those!

If you have the extra - instead, buy the set in 2 oz sizes.......roughly $300..bigger and easier to see the artwork.

If you have big bucks and really want a 10 oz one - get your Chinese zodiac sign.........or a favorite design...........

If you have REALLY big bucks.........well, you probably aren't sitting on the comp reading this site! Send me your FRNs and I'll buy something for you! :D

Here's a shot of a 1 oz and a 2 oz taken together to show the size difference. Then a shot of a 10 oz but, without comparison, you don't really get a feel for how big it is. :tongue: ON edit: Actually, the pictures are ratioed fairly closely.

Well, I have a 1 oz gold rooster, and a 1/10 gold rooster. And a 1 oz silver. So I could get the 2 oz silver to match. I also have quite a few 1 oz horses, dogs, a think a monkey somewhere.

Or shall I get a 2 oz of one I DON'T have, like the snake or the rabbit, to have something different?

I think the longer this thread goes on, the less likely I am ever to choose!

I just followed the link to the "lenticular pig". The version of the Queen on the obverse looks seriously pissed about something, maybe being stuck so close to a pig.

I find any painted silver coin to be ugly and I think it mars the beauty of the metal. I first saw this with the painted Eagles. Blech.

Agree, but the moving pig takes bad taste to a whole new level � I wonder why a mint that makes some of the most beautiful coins in the world can also do this ...........

Sorry, my dealer had everything EXCEPT the dragon! Which probably speaks for itself .................:D

The only other 2oz coin I had was a kookabura, which was, OK, but didn't raise the blood pressure ... but this ... :D
